OUR VETERINARIANS

Meet the folks who make it all happen. We see big potential in every moment, & care deeply about what we do every day.

Bryan Kenton, DVM

Owner / Veterinarian

When Dr. Bryan Kenton was around seven or eight years old, he began accompanying his great uncle, who was a farm veterinarian, on his rounds to nearby farms. The young boy would watch in awe as his uncle worked, caring for all types of animals. It was an experience that would leave an indelible mark on Dr. Kenton’s life, and what would ultimately serve as the inspiration for his becoming a vet as well.

Dr. Kenton completed his undergraduate work at UC Davis in California, where he earned his BS in Avian Science. He did a year of graduate work before being accepted into the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Upon his graduation in 1996, Dr. Kenton began working at Flamingo Pet Clinic as an associate veterinarian. In 2009, he and his wife, Dr. Buchanan, bought the practice and became co-owners.

As an accomplished vet, Dr. Kenton enjoys being able to help animals recover from illness or injury. Clinically, he has a special interest in avian medicine and particularly enjoys working with raptor species (birds of prey).

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Kenton and Dr. Buchanan are the proud parents of three wonderful children, all of whom are in the veterinary field and work at the clinic in some capacity. The family has so many pets, it’s almost impossible to list them all. Of prominent mention, however, are their four Bassett Hounds: Leia, Luke, Ben and Jaina. They also have a cat named Kai, as well as multiple lizards, snakes, and fish.

In his spare time, Dr. Kenton likes scuba diving and is certified as a Rescue Diver. He also enjoys watching college and NFL football.

Tuya Buchanan-Kenton, DVM

Owner / Veterinarian / Practice Manager

When Dr. Buchanan was growing up, she loved horses but sadly, was allergic. Every year, she’d test again in the hopes of a negative result. At age 16, she finally got her wish and her parents bought her a mare. In 1980, after watching Genuine Risk win the Kentucky Derby on television, Dr. Buchanan decided right then and there that she wanted to become a veterinarian. The rest, as they say, is history!

Upon graduating from high school, Dr. Buchanan went on to attend UC Davis as an Animal Science major. After receiving her degree, she took a year off to gain veterinary experience working for an equine ambulatory practitioner in Southern California. From there, she was accepted to the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine where she graduated with her DVM in 1996.

In 2009, Dr. Buchanan purchased the Flamingo Pet Clinic with her husband, Dr. Kenton. She came to work here full time as the practice manager in August of 2015. Clinically, Dr. Buchanan has a particular interest in internal medicine and dermatology. She enjoys solving puzzles and finds these disciplines to be quite interesting.

At home, Drs. Kenton and Buchanan have seven dogs: Basset Hounds Leia, Luke, Ben, and Jaina; and mixed breeds Poppy, Anakin, and Solo (hat tip Star Wars). They also have four birds: Pistachio, Luna, Sam, and Sherbet; a Bengal cat named Kai; five snakes: Nagini, Tom, Draco, Bellatrix, and Narcissa; two bearded dragons named Fred and George (hat tip Harry Potter); a Panther chameleon named Hondo Ohnaka; and too many crested and gargoyle geckos to count.

When she’s not busy running the practice and caring for her personal zoo of pets at home, Dr. Buchanan can usually be found nose-deep in a good book. Reading is what helps her relax.
